THE NIGER-DELTA RENAISSANCE!

By Oyinpreye Dorgu

Verse 1

Life in Nigeria is ‘nasty and brutish’

We look our soldiers in their eyes and ask them how they do it,

We ask them why they rape our girls and ask them why they screw it,

We came with the Renaissance and we started to renew it,

But it took about 50 years for them to hear us,

And it took about two, three years for them to fear us,

It took a lot of taking of lives for them to feel us,

But with no provocation, they sent the soldiers to kill us,

Our life is as crazy as the hell that was visited by Dante,

Our kingdoms came under attack like the Ashantis,

But we kept our heads to the sky, got the Bounties,

Visions of our villages turning to Big Counties,

Yar’Adua, What’s up? Why the Criminality?

Nigeria has to stop - crimes against humanity,

Living in Abuja, flying round the world is vanity,

What goes up is going to face The Law of Gravity!

Chorus

Soldiers attack many Ijo Villages,

And we deal with Spillages, While the Soldier pillages,

Crossed the line of Scrimmages, Like the football game,

But they’re knocking down our Villages and causing us a lot of pain,

The pain that a man inflicts on his fellow man,

Chasing waterfalls, but we’d show you that it’s all in vain,

Got Fire For Fire, and Shock And Awe , and Dialogue,

We can do it dirty, or we might as well just - DIALOGUE!!!

Verse 2

Life in Bayelsa is backwards,

Look in front of you and start to wonder where your back was,

Where your security is, and where your million Naira went,

Why they treat the foreigners good and hate your accent,

Why they call you bad names, say that you’re a militant,

Say that you’re a vigilante, ‘cause you’ve been vigilant,

Where they send the saints and the villains to the slaughterhouse,

Where they throw stones at you, straight out of a glasshouse,

Where they don’t butter your bread, but suck your blood dry,

Suck the crude oil out your land, till it’s all dry,

Where we’ve got women getting naked when they hit the streets,

Taking over crude oil platforms and the streets,

Yar’Adua, What’s up? What’s up with the JTF?

What we need on the streets are the cops, not the JTF?

As it is, you should be at the Hague for their actions,

Agge was attacked and destroyed, now what’s up with your inaction

Got fire for fire and shock and awe and dialogue,

So we can do it dirty, or we might as well - DIALOGUE!!!

Verse 3

Home is where your heart is, and home is where my heart is,

For sending soldiers to the creeks, we know you’re not the smartest,

We know that you’re the beast in our midst, and regardless,

You’re never going to kill us all and multiply your madness,

Enough of all the stress, and the grief, and the sadness,

We’re sharper than your Razor Blades and all we do is fabulous,

You will not destroy everything we built for Centuries,

Leave us in Ijawland, and we will live for Centuries,

We will span Millennia and do it till the end of time,

We will never be associated with the life of crime,

We will be an upright nation with our leadership,

Dignified and not as crafty as the Car Dealership,

Yar’Adua, What’s up? What’s up with the Constitution?

What’s up with the Federation? Why all the Conflagrations?

Why’s the Niger-Delta under siege by the military?

Killing off a whole generation of humanity?

Got fire for fire and shock and awe and dialogue,

So we can do it dirty, or we might as well - DIALOGUE!!!
